Anesthesia and Patient MonitoringIf a patient undergoes a specific medical or surgical procedure, whether it is invasive, such as a spay, or non-invasive, such as a professional dental cleaning, different forms of anesthesia and sedation may be employed. Just as in humans, anesthesia and sedation are generally safe but also present some level of risk for animals. Before any pet is anesthetized or sedated, he or she will be examined by one of our veterinarians and blood work may be required as well. This is to reduce these risks and ensure the health of your pet. There are several forms of safe and effective anesthesia used in a small animal practice. |
